SPRING BULB DISPLAY

Remember my grand bulb plans last September? Well, my bulb dreams have come true! The hours of effort planting them last fall paid off and we had a glorious display in April/May with lots of color. The two biggest areas I focused on were a front yard shrub bed that I wanted to fill with spring color and my back yard woods.

First up, the front beds. We planted the Spring Loaded Daffodil Mix from Colorblends and had plants in bloom for about 5-6 weeks from early April to mid-May. Having a mix of daffodils with differing bloom times made this space a lot of fun.

The second major area was the back woods, which are just pretty lackluster until the leaves grow in on the trees. We planted 100 Falconet daffodils throughout the lower wooded area and, honestly, pictures don’t do it justice. The yellow daffodils happened to bloom at the same time as the vinca, so it was a beautiful display of color in the spring. The Falconets should naturalize pretty easily and more blooms per plant next year!

Also, my winter sowing effort was a success! I would highly recommend this for perennials. All of mine germinated (some more than others) and I didn’t have to water the jugs a. single. time. Literally not once from February through May, when I finally planted them out into the yard. Talk about low maintenance!
